JALAN PULANG
Suhaimi: RPK is spin doctoring
The two Pakatan Rakyat state assembymen implicated by blogger Raja Petra Kamarudin in the sand mining scandal have responded to the allegation, with one of them calling it spin doctoring.
Contacted by FMT, Batu Caves rep Amirudin Shari said that he already given his statement to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in 2010.
The PKR politician added that he was puzzled why the blogger raised an old issue.
“I have spoken to MACC and so far they haven’t come back to me,” he said.
Raja Petra alleged that Amirudin and Sri Muda assemblyman Mat Suhaimi Shafiei had colluded with a well-financed contractor with regard to sand mining operations in the state.
The contractor was said to have forked out cash assistance to Suhaimi for his programmes while Amirudin had provided a supporting letter to Double Dignity Sdn Bhd, the sand mining company belonging to the contractor.
Both assemblymen were also alleged to be sitting on the company board as directors.
On the support letter, Amirudin admitted that he had given out several support letters in the past.
“But I always state in the letter that the relevant authority should only consider the applicant if they fulfil the regulations in place,” he said.
Amirudin added that he had no executive powers to influence any authorities in the state to approve anything.
Spin-doctoring
Meanwhile, Suhaimi, when contacted, refused to comment, saying that he had already posted a response on his blog.
In his blog posting, the PKR politician did not provide answers to the allegation but merely asked readers if they believed Raja Petra.
“There is no reason for me to answer the allegations when the credibility of the writer is questionable,” he wrote
